Hazel the Pomeranian arrived with her friend Iris the Miniature Dachshund, they both came from the same breeder to retire. Hazel has previously lived in kennels, she is slowly adjusting to life indoors and getting used to all the household noises and gaining confidence. Hazel was very matted on arrival and sadly we had to shave her coat completely off for her own welfare, the matts were pulling at her skin and very uncomfortable. She will need regular grooming once her coat grows back. Hazel was very well behaved when we bathed and groomed her (thanks to our lovely friend Jess at Northam Bears who always grooms out emergency cases for free at short notice).

We have spayed Hazel, given her a booster vaccination and she has also had a full dental so her teeth are nice and clean.

Hazel is very timid and can be a little anxious, she will need time and patience and an experienced dog owner to bring her out of her shell. She is coping well in foster with lots of other small dogs but she would do best in a quieter home and probably with someone at home most of the time. When Hazel is happy she does a lovely little dance and smiles to show a wonderful toothy grin.

We are currently very busy and rescue spaces are extremely limited – PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF YOU HAVE HOLIDAYS BOOKED OR ARE NOT IN A POSITION TO FINALISE THE ADOPTION IN GOOD TIME – we have a huge waiting list which we are constantly juggling as we hate turning away dogs in need. Please tell us about and breed experience on your application form. Whilst a loving home is SO important for a rescue dog, they will also need structure, routine, boundaries and long term commitment.

THE DOG YOU MEET AND TAKE HOME MAY NOT BE THE DOG YOU HAVE IN 6 MONTHS TIME – THEY CAN BE NERVOUS AND SHUT DOWN, TAKING TIME TO GAIN CONFIDENCE AND SHOW THEIR TRUE PERSONALITIES – THEY MAY PUSH BOUNDARIES AND BECOME HARD WORK BEFORE SETTLING FULLY. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF YOU AREN’T COMPLETELY COMMITTED TO ADOPTING AND DOING EVERYTHING TO MAKE THE PROCESS WORK.
