Herbert the Miniature Dachshund

Herbert the Miniature Dachshund

Herbert is a tiny pied colour Miniature Dachshund boy who came to Little Legs with his sister Lucy. Herbert is 16 months old and originally sold via a breeder, but then returned due to a relationship breakdown. Herbert is a timid boy but living in foster with other small dogs including Dachshunds and really coming out of his shell. He is a quick learner and loves going out on walks to the sand dunes. Herbert has had his booster vaccination with us but cannot yet be castrated due to his age. We follow the Dachshund Breed Council guidance which states Miniature Dachshunds should only be neutered once fully grown and over 2 years of age due to the increased IVDD risk. Herbert will leave with a neutering agreement in place and this will need to be done by your own vet when he reaches the correct age.

We have made the decision to split Herbert and his sister Lucy as two un neutered adult dogs they do pose a pregnancy risk, a mating between these two would be a disaster – they are both dilute colours, which whilst looking very unusual, do come with their own set of health risks. Herbert and Lucy have done well being separated and settled well into their foster homes. Please fully research dilute and Isabella colours in Dachshunds before applying. Herbert weighs approximately 4kg. Herbert will need to live with other small, kind resident dogs, ideally other Daxis.

Colour – Isabella pied – grey and white

Microchip number and company – Herbert is chipped and the paperwork passed to the new owners to register

Known medical conditions – Herbert has been treated in foster for an ear infection which has now cleared. He has also had some itchy sore skin on his front feet, but this has been bathed with medicated wash and much improved.

Neutered – No, Herbert is currently too young, it is an expectation of the adoption that Herbert is castrated when he reaches 2 years of age and cannot be used for breeding in any circumstances. If your own personal view point is that you do not want to neuter your pets, then please do not apply. Any resident dogs should be neutered and proof may be requested from your vet
