Barry the Terrier

Barry the Terrier

Barry has been successfully rehomed.
Barry the Terrier is seven months old and absolutely loves cuddles and snacks. Barry was surrendered to us after some biting incidents, we can discuss these with potential adopters.

Barry is only a baby still and has so much potential. He is very nervous and anxious but since arriving with us his confidence has grown so much in only a short space of time. Like a lot of nervous dogs he does not like being grabbed or touch around the collar or head and we have been slowly working on desensitising him to handling and putting on a collar and lead.

We are also crate training him which he has taken to superbly. Barry is clean and can hang on for the toilet overnight and during the day. Barry weighs only 8kg.

When he first meets people he can be worried and will growl and bark, but once he knows you are a friend he will happily sit, wag his tail and take a treat. This boy loves his food and will quickly be won over with biscuits, making him easily trainable.

Due to his history, he absolutely cannot be rehomed where there are children or visiting children. Barry has the makings of a wonderful companion, he has met our resident dogs and cats with a waggy tail and could live with other laid back, calm, confident companions.

We could keep Barry long term to work on his training and confidence here, but we don’t know how transferable those skills will be – as his issue is trusting humans. So long term foster is not likely to benefit him, as he will then have to start from scratch building a relationship with his new family.

Barry is a sweet, loving boy who needs a patient, experienced handler who is prepared to put in the time to training and building up his trust.

Barry is not a first dog but will make the most loyal and loving companion for the right home. Like all our dogs, there is no rush for him to leave and we will wait for his perfect home. The ideal new adopters will come to visit Barry to build up a relationship with him prior to leaving. His lead walking is a work in progress and he has previously not been used to going on walks.
